This procedure installs the Java Development Kit (JDK) for 64-bit Linux, using an archive binary file (.tar.gz). Download the JDK from Oracle’s site. The download to the newest version is always linked from

javac -version

Create folder: /usr/local/java

sudo cp -r jdk-8u102-linux-x64.tar.gz /usr/local/java/

cd /usr/local/java

sudo tar zxvf jdk-8u102-linux-x64.tar.gz

nano ~/.profile

Add to ~/.profile
export JAVA_HOME=/usr/local/java/jdk1.8.0_102
export PATH=$PATH:$JAVA_HOME/bin

Log out and in again (or do . ~/.profile), and everything should just work.
