Raspberry Pi may sound like the name of a dessert. But it is actually one of the hottest and cheapest little computers in the world right now. The story of the Raspberry Pi began in 2006 when Eben Upton and other faculty members at the University of Cambridge in Britain found that their incoming computer science students were ill-prepared for a high-tech education.
The Raspberry Pi 3 has a more powerful QUAD Core Broadcom BCM2837 64bit ARMv8 processor making it 10x faster than the first generation Raspberry Pi. The speed is now up to 1.2GHz on this new Raspberry Pi Model. As well as this, the Raspberry Pi Foundation have added wireless LAN & Bluetooth connectivity. This makes it perfect for a wide range of applications and far surpasses the Raspberry Pi Model B+ and Raspberry Pi 2 Model B. They have upgraded switched power source up to 2.5 Amps so you can now power even more powerful devices over USB ports.
The Pi 3 will now really allow hobbyists and makers to create incredible projects! Here are a few ideas:
Low cost PC/tablet/laptop
Low cost media center (KODI)
Home automation projects
Internet of Things applications
Raspberry Pi Robot projects
Environmental sensing/monitoring (e.g. weather station)
