Meta Connect 2023 is set to kick off with a highly anticipated keynote presentation, scheduled for September 27, 2023, at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET. During this event, Meta, the parent company of Facebook, is expected to take center stage by unveiling the Meta Quest 3 headset. This release comes three years after its predecessor, the Meta Quest 2, and less than a year following the introduction of the Quest Pro, a mixed-reality headset catering to enterprise users.

While some competitors, like Magic Leap, have shifted their primary focus to corporate training and prototyping, Meta remains deeply committed to the consumer market. Gaming, and to a lesser extent, the metaverse, have proven to be the most successful domains for the social media giant. Although VR/AR hasn’t achieved the resounding success that Mark Zuckerberg and his team had envisioned, Meta maintains a significant lead over the rest of the industry, with the exception of perhaps Vive and PlayStation VR.

Mark Zuckerberg himself provided a sneak peek of the Meta Quest 3 on Instagram a few weeks prior to the event. He touted it as “The first mainstream headset with high-res color mixed reality,” boasting that it is “40% thinner and more comfortable than the Quest 2” and featuring better displays and resolution. The headset is also equipped with a next-generation Qualcomm chipset, offering twice the graphics performance compared to its predecessor, making it the most powerful headset in Meta’s lineup. Zuckerberg also revealed a competitive price point of $499, significantly undercutting the Magic Leap 2 ($3,299) and even Meta’s own Quest Pro ($1,000), not to mention Apple’s high-priced Vision Pro at $3,499.

For those eager to follow the Meta Quest 3 reveal live, the best option is to bookmark Meta’s Facebook page, where the company will be livestreaming the keynote presentation. Additionally, for the latest news and updates, keep an eye on TechCrunch, as they will be providing extensive coverage of the event directly from Menlo Park.
